Hey, I’m Keri! Thank you for visiting my little corner of the internet.
I started writing for fun when I was 5 years old and never stopped. Writing is the only professional dream I’ve ever had.
I enjoy narrative journalism and writing personal essays, as well as writing stories for children. I hope you find my work to be warm, familiar and vulnerable. I laugh, cry and everything in between while I write, and hope you experience the same emotions.
I’ve written features for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a freelancer for 20 years. I’m also working on a book of essays and querying publishers for children’s books I have written. I’m super excited about my new columns “Oh My Word,” and “Dear Keri.” I’ve wanted to write a weekly column for years.
I was born and raised in Georgia and attended Auburn University (War Damn Eagle!) where I earned my degree in journalism. I married a bonafide Yankee in 2010, and together we share three beautiful boys. Our oldest son passed in 2017, and we honor his memory through our nonprofit, the Maximus Janton Foundation.
Fun fact: Let the record show that I’m not just a writer, but also a songwriter. I wrote a Christmas song at age 5 that I can still perform on cue and I wrote another song in 2015 as an anniversary gift to my husband. I wrote the lyrics, and my friend wrote the music. If you wish to join the two others (my husband and I) who have heard that song, listen HERE.
My work has been featured in the following publications:
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Magazine, Living Intown Magazine, Living Northside Magazine, Atlanta Parent Magazine, East Alabama Living Magazine, Newcomer Magazine
